More Nostalgia

I'm still sorting through my box of Sasha photos and paper items and found two pages taken from old Hamley's catalogues. The one above is from 1984 and the one below from 1985.

Just look at those prices! Now where's my time machine, I'll stop by there on my way to the mid sixties :-)

  1. I love looking at old Sasha brochures and photos etc, wow those prices! And to think they were Hamley prices too, so probably would be a bit cheaper at just plain old toy shops, maybe? Can I join you in your time machine? Cathy x

  2. That's true, I hadn't thought of that - we'll have a great spend! Oh yes, there'll be plenty of room in my time machine, it will have Tardis proportions - once I've built it :-)

  3. Gosh wasn't there a huge range/choice of baby Sashas available in 1986 and at superb prices.
Unfortunately I wasn't collecting Sashas in those years having bought my last one in 1975 and didn't start up again until 1996 when the 1990s Gotz manufacturing had started up again in the year before.
Thanks for the interesting photos, prices and post.
Happy Bank Holiday though pity about the wet weather.
    Sasha love from Kendal.

    1. Hi Kendal, I know, all that choice for, what seems to us now, such a small price. I did buy one Sasha by mail order from the Hamleys catalogue around that time, the Redhaired White Dress, and it was so difficult to choose which one. I remember wishing I could afford two, so the price must have seemed quite high to me at that time. I assumed I'd be able to get more later on. I got an awful shock when the factory closed and the prices went so high on the secondary market, and I was heartbroken that I hadn't bought a baby. I thought I would NEVER own one. But only a few years later I bought Sadie from my friend Julian Kalinowski and I treasured her.

It's been lovely weather for ducks here this morning, a saying aptly proven by the pair enjoying themselves on our lake. However it's stopped now and the sun is attempting to come out, so it will probably be heading your way too.

I hope you enjoy your Bank Holiday and I'm looking forward to seeing your birthday gifts on your blog
      Sasha love to you too

  4. I used to love going to Hamleys in London just to look at the dolls there! You could buy pairs of Sasha shoes for £1.99! I used to get my Sashas from Selfridges and Harrods. One time Selfridges had loads of Calebs as they weren't selling and reduced them to £5 each! Can you imagine that?!!

    1. It's almost torture hearing that story now! :-) Did you go away with an armful of Calebs then? If only those stores still sold Sashas, preferably at those vintage prices. My daughter works at Harrods, so she gets staff discount :-)

  5. Goodness, £5 for a Caleb, that is unbelievable now and as Mikki said virtually torture! Some wonderful nostalgia there Mikki, and such a range of babies. Lovely to see the brochures.
